Gen Z vs. Millennials

I feel caught in this trending fashion feud. Mostly because I am, in fact, a millennial. Which I am aware means that I am essentially a grandma to a 19-year old. It's fine. If you haven't heard about this ridiculous beef: Gen Z-ers lit up social media, bashing Millennials for still wearing a side part and skinny jeans. We're old they say. Here's the thing, the only thing: no one likes to be called old. I cringe inside when someone calls me ma'am. It's a hard [vitamin D] pill to swallow when you realize that you're not young anymore; that you groan every time you get up. Unfortunately, I think it's time for us to take the place of the Baby Boomers and sometimes it's hard to fall from grace. Or start using a cane apparently.
Fashion trends change. Pretty cyclically actually. They've moved on to middle parts and oversized, high-waisted denim. Attractive. What Gen Z has failed to recognize, is that they're mimicking the 90s.

The decade that housed our teenage years...when I wore a center part and baggy jeans. When it didn't matter if you saw my teenaged butt. Because it was teen-aged. Now I'd love for you to see that my ass still has shape because I have to work really hard at it...at this age. Over-sized jeans again are a no from me. I really don't want to re-live the Clueless era. Nor do I have any desire to dress like a teenager. Late breaking news: I have bigger things to worry about. Like paying a mortgage and raising children and getting out of sweats more than twice a week.
When you're young, everything is stupid. And nothing else matters other than your friends, a 12-pack of beer and what you're wearing. I get it. I'm not offended that kids think I'm old. I do think it's funny that some day they'll be remembering the time when Tik Tok was invented as their children hop into a flying car, and someone comments on their lame pants.
